Business challenge

A defence client needed to improve its safety management operations across its manufacturing site. It had previously failed to meet the requirements of its regulator and was operating under an enhanced regulatory regime with increased scrutiny from its customer and regulator. Several previous attempts to resolve the issues had failed to embed and rectify the problems. 

Our solution

We conducted a comprehensive review of the client’s safety management operations, highlighting critical issues that had not previously been identified. Our team worked with key stakeholders from across the client’s manufacturing facilities to develop a common approach to safety management, and then captured the ways of working in a set of guidance documents. We identified a core set of safety management metrics to enable the monitoring of safety management performance. Improvements were rolled out across the facilities, with a series of learning and development events aimed at providing both a high level overview and more tailored training to those performing specific safety management roles.  

RESULTS

The client’s safety management performance improved considerably, resulting in the ending of the enhanced regulatory framework that they had been operating within. The client team we were supporting were recognised with an organisational award for the execution of the transformation programme.
